Our Lord, Jesus the Christ, the Son of the living God, was born as a human child to Mary, a young woman of Nazareth who was betrothed to a carpenter named Joseph. The natural birth of the Saviour of the World is traditionally celebrated on December 25th, and throughout the surrounding season, although we know that Jesus was probably not born exactly on that day, or even that at time of year. As tradition would have it though; we celebrate the coming of the Light on this day, which also marks, more or less, the winter's solstice, that time of year when the days again begin to lengthen. 

There has been some debate in the Church, over the years, as to the pagan origins of the celebration ( ritual? ) of December 25th, but these objections can quickly answered by reminding each other that of the King born on this day, it was prophesied that 'every knee shall bow', and that God has put 'all things in subjection under his feet', including the pagan, even wicked, celebrations of unbelieving men of old!
